Good point, Mikael. Many great leaders of the past would not be considered "good people" if the magnifying glass were put on them. But this is the age of FOX News, political blogs, high-tech mud-slinging, etc. I would not be able to fathom how anyone can run for office without having an ounce of their "dirt" exposed and thus having to defend themselves why they would make a great leader.
For example... look at Abe Lincoln. Would he have been elected as President if his lifelong battle with depression had been exposed? If he were running today... probably not. But as it turns out, his depression actually fueled his astonishing success. In my opinion, Lincoln deserves more than just the penny and the 5 spot... he should get the C note, at least... haha*. I wonder how racial tensions would be today if Stephen A. Douglas had won the election, if Obama would even be considered as a presidential candidate? And just for the record, Lincoln was an improbable underdog in 1860.
And haha! I wish Obama all the luck with the cancer sticks. I think he can do it, too!
