Spert, you are correct with your ice in a glass analogy and I thought the same thing myself. The problem is, most of the ice sheets are located on land so IF they were to melt, the ocean level would rise. Bear in mind, the polar ice caps on Mars are melting at the same rate as those on Earth. Those f-ing Martians better start buying carbon offsets.
