I love this article. Jealousy can be looked at from many points of view. As a drummer, competition has often been the driving force behind my advancement. And I don't mean challenging others to drum-offs, I mean everytime I see a drummer who was better than myself, it helps me to overcome laziness in my playing and practice regimen. I'll suddenly be reminded that there's much more to learn and that reminder is like the nourishment of musical growth.

Jealousy can be a valuable tool, unless it is channeled in negative ways. You can use it to grow as a player and songwriter. It can restore a lost or lagging work ethic. But unfortunately it can hinder ordestroy relationships in and outside of the band. I think everyone faces Jealousy; it is in our individuality that the differences arise in how we choose to use it.
