| Well Pelosi tied herself to Bonds but I'll take whatever compliments I can get.
McGwire, as you said, was "busted" with a substance that wasn't illegal at the time. Perhaps it should have been but it wasn't so he has wiggle room. Bonds does not.
My position is that if we ALLOW obvious steroid usage (and Mikael is about the ONLY person I've heard who doesn't believe Bonds to have been using) then let's go all the way and say it's perfectly LEGAL.
THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST WIDELY KNOWN RECORD IN ALL OF BASEBALL!!! I can't help but compare Bonds to Hank Aaron. Aaron had a quiet grace under pressure. Many people (mainly white)resented the fact that Aaron, a black man, was gunning for a record set by Babe Ruth. Aaron worked hard, kept his head down and broke the record. Aaron did not CHEAT!!! When Aaron hit his record breaking homer there were NO QUESTION MARKS!!! It was a triumph of hard work over adversity and even those who were rooting for Babe Ruth to keep the record HAD TO RESPECT Aaron. That isn't the case with Bonds. Yeah, he is a good hitter but if he hadn't JUICED UP and gained forty pounds of muscle mass he wouldn't be ANYWHERE NEAR this record.
And for the record, Bonds isn't the only one. St Lance Armstrong, for example, appears to have been DOPER! His team mates and their wives are coming out of the woodwork with allegations. In his case it isn't blatantly apparent (he didn't gain forty pounds of muscle mass in six months) but if it is true he should be STRIPPED of ALL those Tour de France victories when he was doping.
