A Must See Extravaganza: Across the Universe

A Must See/Hear Extravaganza: Across The Universe

“Across The Universe” is the most innovative, creative and groundbreaking musical film to come along in a generation.

This original and powerful movie musical is the brainchild of renowned director Julie Taymor (Frida, Titus, and the Broadway hit “The Lion King”) and writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais (The Commitments).

A love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s Vietnam anti-war protest, youth exploration and rock ‘n roll, the film moves from the dockyards of Liverpool to the bohemian culture of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam.

Star-crossed lovers, Jude (Jim Sturgess) and Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), along with their group of musical friends, are swept up into the emerging anti-war counterculture, with “Dr. Robert” (Bono) and “Mr. Kite” (Eddie Izzard) as their guides. Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Jude and Lucy — against all odds — to find their own way back to each other.

The film features musical numbers adapted from songs by the Beatles — particularly from the band’s psychedelic period.

Across The Universe is a feast for the senses, a timely film for the current culture, and a visual sensation that is sure to garner accolades and awards in the months to come.

The film opened to limited release September 14th, with wide release on September 21st. Don’t miss this one!
