I'm not sure how I feel about her lawsuit, but it also looks like the police department put her on leave to force her to drop it, and I don't think it's their place to force the issue either.

I do think it's negligent both for the mother to let the baby out of her sight when there's a pool, and that the pool wasn't secured. That DID cause the child's injuries and led to the police call, no doubt. I feel for the family but it is their failure to secure the pool and watch the child that led to his current condition.
