but here's another little thought for you
When people do actually start to quit smoking (and if you tax it high enough many will) who is going to pay for the programs funded by tobacco tax revenues? For every smoker that quits you eliminate revenue. Who's going to pick up the slack?
That's right, non-smoking taxpayers.
I, BTW, don't have a problem with high tobacco taxes. But I don't think they should be used to fund what are supposed to be permanent programs.
And I think that those of you who think you are sticking it to the smokers had better think again. In the end you are probably sticking it to yourself (assuming you are a taxpayer)!!!! |
