from the article:
Five Iranian speedboats harassed three US navy ships at the weekend, approaching them and radioing a threat to blow them up, US officials say.
The incident happened in the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping route. The US said their ships were about to open fire when the Iranian boats withdrew.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called the Iranian action "provocative and dangerous".
Iran played down the event, describing it as an "ordinary occurrence".
"This... happens for the two sides every once in a while and, after the identification of the two sides, the issue is resolved," foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said.
So the question becomes, should Bush have responded? Given the USS Cole incident in which suicide bombers used speedboats to kill several of our servicemen on a Navy ship my policy as President would be to ORDER my captains to DESTROY ANY vessel acting in such a provocative fashion. The captain, if time permitted would warn the boat and then, if the boat didn't respond, he'd be under PRESIDENTIAL ORDERS to destroy the boat. I would NOT allow another USS Cole incident just because I was trying to "minimize tensions with Iran".
In fact I would have gone on television and specifically told the Iranians this.
But if Bush were to do this you Bushhatas would say he is just trying to pick a fight with Iran because we all know Bush wants nothing but war.
So Bushhatas what would be your position? Should we risk the lives of our servicemen because someone else is acting like a thug? Or should we uphold our oath of office and protect those servicemen even if it means our political opponents will call us a "warmongerer for doing so?"
