| I think recording is almost as important as the actual gig, for smaller or starter bands. Once you get a following its still important but not as important maybe only 30% vs 50% for getting first gigs. realistically the Bar manager will listen to maybe 10 - 50 seconds of one or two tracks on a rare occasion he will listen to a entire song. But the recording has to be very good, even a live to hear the crowd in background (someone like Bert could add this easily). Then after a few gigs and the groupies start then its important to make a decent recording to broaden your fan base. I could be incorrect on the percentages but I am not incorrect on the importance. But a poor recording will do exactly opposite, it will tend to lose people and I know a band right now that sent me a CD and their recording on the cd is really bad; but who am I but someone on a board who has a starter band now and they have gigs........
