I think this contributes to and idea of "now we can do this on our own" -vs- "lets rely on our friends in bands to help us."
The scene wasn't in the best of shape 4-5 years ago when everyone was trying, now there seems to be a lot of apathy.
So advertise the board, name drop it at shows, I remember when you would see bumper stickers with message boards' names stuck all over town. If you want a community you have to form a community. If it turns out to be a positive experience for all bands involved (show swapping, promotion, ect.)it will grow. | Even myspace isn't used for what it was meant to be used for when it started up.
