Some questions about race and "other"

When someone is 1/2 Black & 1/2 White
They claim that they are "Black".

Like in Obama's case, for example.
Why?

Is being White a crime?
Do people want sympothy for being black?
Do people view whites as evil?
weak?
Do people feel empowered by claiming their
African-American Heritage over their
say.....Scotish-American background?

Why must anyone claim anything in front of the word..AMERICAN?
Isn't that the point?
We are just a big melting pot with many backgrounds, after all.
So why do we feel the need to point out one's family tree origin?

I can understand someone who may have gained citizinship calling themselves a "Mexican-American" or "German-American", I guess.
But why are people
who are 3 or 4 generations removed
still claiming a country
that they have never visited
nor never intend to visit?

talk amoungst yourselves.......
