| My nephew is half black. He came for the wedding and I decided to ask him about it. He's 10. He's All Star Football and has been for four years, he's playing with kids almost 3 years older than him, many of whom are black. He is being raised by his mother, who is white (my sister) and has never met (or will ever meet) his father (typical he doesn't want anything to do with them and hasn't contacted since she said she was pregnant story). He says the black boys give him shit. They say he's fast like a 'black boy', but he 'acts white'. He talked a lot about how he'd like to know more about his black heritage, but as of now, the 'black' in him doesn't mean much... he is very intelligent for his age. He went into how he doesn't think he's black OR white, he is both and he isn't MORE one or the other. He said on the standardized tests he always marks both white and black. |
