A scene is not a bunch of bands, but bands and all of their supporters. Focusing solely on music will bore some and chase others off. Music should be the center of the board, but other conversation must exist as well.
I've seen every band on here get positive comments, and yes some have received some negative, but if you can't take it go play in your garage. Lose the ego and have some fun. Every musician wants to be liked, but some get their shit all tangled when someone makes a comment that is less than positive. Headbanger101 Check out my band!! Greatest ever!! Rock!! Guitardude I don't dig your guitar tone, dude! Headbanger101 Fuck you dude! I fuckin' played with a guy related to Ratt's guitar tech! I know my shit! Fuck all of you guys!!!
A dramatization, I know, but grow up! If someone dislikes your shit, do not invite them to shows. Of course, if they pay to get in, who cares, right? |
This is a great post. No matter how good you are, somebody is gonna think you suck, if for no other reason than they aren't into what you are musically, or as said above, they just don't like your tone.
And the scene IS the supporters, more so than the bands, because bands are nothing and nowhere without music fans and their support. I think this board is pretty cool, could use more traffic but I think the overall vibe is great. Not too brutal but people will say what they think.
Go check out the Metal Sludge boards if you think this place has too much negativity! This is a serene place to me.
We're also all still trying to get over the colossal disaster of Katrina. I hate that this always comes up, but it's central to everybody's mindset in a way, even if we'd like to forget it. Everything we build can be destroyed in a day. That'll tend to bum you out and stop the momentum of a music scene, so keep it in perspective. We still survive, and the scene survives. It might be limping but it's still alive.
