Well, the stars finally aligned and I was able to put together my own studio geared for the independent artist (and their budgets!). No, this isn't the typical "I bought a computer and want to record bands" studio....I wanted to put together a very spacious and affordable studio that has a lot of character chalked full of killer vintage mics and outboard gear together in an all analog recording environment...oh yea,
and it's affordable!.
It was a tall order; but I pulled it off. It's called
"welcome to 1979" .

It's not that i'm against digital recording- I use Pro Tools on a daily basis....but many bands that I talk with (and record) have a strong desire to do things in more of an analog frame of mind...4 or 5 guys in the same room (with amps isolated) working hard to get just the right performance instead of having someone edit one together...plus the added benefit of that kick ass analog sound.
My place is geared to capture not manufacture great performances...so it's not be right for everyone, and I'm fine with that.
I spend about 6 years putting together the equipment for the studio- all of it was state of the art in the mid-seventies and early eighties, (the same make and model console recorded Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and the Allman Brothers just to name a few). Over half of all the Billboard top 200 was recorded on the same equipment that I've assembled. (Oh yea, i have a large stash of analog tape to help keep the cost down on that end as well.)
I recently found just the right building to install my little recording time capsule. It has a large control room (50ft x 30ft), an equally large recording space with seven isolation booths, a lounge, kitchen, crash pad for out of town bands, and a loading dock for easy in, easy out.
Check out the pics, and if you're into this kind of thing- drop me a line and we'll see if we can make your project happen within your budget. (and yes, that's a motorcycle in the control room...also from the 1970s!)
