Well you know, I have a wife and kids and am not suicidal, so I am concerned about safety also.....
However hellyeah's "logic" from above has been used for the last twenty years to NOT produce an efficient car.
Using the same "logic" we should all drive Hummers and get 5 mpg because Hummers are heavy and thus everything else is "unsafe"!!!! (That and I just love saying "hummer").
Currently, if I want a car that gets 50 mpg, I have to go with an unsafe car (because as noted above the Honda CRX and Geo don't do well in crash tests due to no steel reinforcement) OR I have to go with diesel which costs more than gas.
If I want a car that gets 40+ mpg I have to go "unsafe", diesel or hybrid (read expensive to buy and work on).
Is there ANYONE out there who can seriously maintain that the car manufacturers could not make a SAFE, gasoline powered car that got over 40 mpg????
