Bear Stears bailout

This is a big fall, Bear Stearns was a big financial institute, It was trading at $159 a share less than a year ago, now it's worth $2 a share in a Fed subsidized buyout. It's sort of like how Amtrak was bailed out, and still being bailed out. I'm sure a lot of people will have lost their ass on this, may even be suicides.

I feel bad for the people who lost alot because of it. Don't carry all your eggs in one basket.

People get pissed about bailouts, but a company like this failing could well cause a big domino effect. It's not the company the government is protecting so much as trying to protect the whole economy.

It's worth bailing out some key companies to maintain confidence in the system as a whole. The whole system runs on faith when you get right down to it. If people start to doubt the FDIC then you get runs on banks and th whole thing falls down.
