Britney Spears charged in hit and run in L.A.

While Britney Spears' career, not to mention her marriages, might be over now, the legal woes continue to mount for the 'Toxic' singer as she was charged with hit and run and driving without a valid license on Friday, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.

25-year-old Britney Spears has been charged with one count of hit and run causing property damage, as well as one count of driving without a valid California driver's license. The misdemeanor charges, which each carry a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, were filed against Britney Spears after an incident which took place in a private parking lot in the San Fernando Valley in the afternoon of August 6. What has made it worse for Britney Spears is that the entire thing was captured on tape.

The paparazzi had been following Britney Spears, when she tried to park her car in a narrow parking space in a Studio City parking lot. However, Spears collided with another vehicle as she attempted to do so. Britney Spears then assessed the damage to her vehicle before she walked away, again, with the incident caught on tape. Three days after the collision, the owner of the damaged car spotted the video and filed a police report. Kim Robard-Rifkin, a 59-year-old registered nurse, used the video to begin the investigation into Britney Spears' driving, which later discovered that the former pop singer doesn't have a driver's license.

After she learned it was her car that was hit, Kim Robard-Rifkin told the press that she was, "sort of amused and sort of shocked," to find it was Britney Spears that had hit her car. Robard-Rifkin said that she waited to hear from Britney's people about the accident, but she never did. Robard-Rifkin told CelebTV.com at the time that, "I simply want my car fixed, the same as I would fix somebody's car if I had done that."

Britney Spears is scheduled to be arraigned on her misdemeanor charges on October 10, though she is not required to attend the hearing. However, this case against Spears comes shortly after a court commissioner ordered her to undergo random drug testing, as well as alcohol testing, twice a week as part of her child-custody case against her ex-husband, Kevin Federline.
