Homemade bomb brought to sheriff

Jackson County sheriff's deputies are looking for the person responsible for making a homemade pipe bomb that a resident turned over to authorities Sunday.

According to Sheriff Mike Byrd, a resident found the bomb on his property Sunday and immediately brought it to the Sheriff's Department substation on Washington Avenue.

Authorities told the resident to take the makeshift bomb to the parking lot, where the Biloxi Bomb Squad destroyed it Sunday.

Both lanes of North Washington Avenue were shut down while authorities deactivated the bomb.

To report information, call the Jackson County Sheriff's Department at 769-3063.

Personally, I think I would have called the police and not carried it around with me. And then, they tell him to take it to the parking lot!

Wow that's bad. But knowing me I wouldn't know it was a bomb. What does a pipe bomb look like?

They put the explosive materials in the inside of a pipe.

Just don't pick up any stray pipes and I think you'll be okay. If you see any pipes acting suspicious though, call the local authorities immediately.
