Rep Power: 20 ![]() | I loved it, I spent a little over 4 years in the UK, went to London almost every weekend that was free. Been to Soho, and the area where the Stones, Hendrix all got their start (also Clapton) but most of that area is all Porn shops now. Purchased my Marshall head and cabs over there. Been to the Marshall Factory, still have the hand outs and bumper stickers from the tour (I got this stuff in 85). Went to many real concerts at Castle Donnington for example AC/DC Accept, Motley Crue, Van Halen (with David Lee Roth), Gary Moore, Y & T, and Ozzy and this was one show. These were the original "Monsters of Rock", I believe this was the second or third show. Loved Nottingham, Wales, Scotland and spent many nights in those locations. I loved England, I also went over the channel to France, Germany, Denmark before the Euro Train Tunnel was completed. The only sad thing about my time over there is that Pink Floyd was not Touring between 84-88, they just stopped a tour right before I got there and the band started touring again a few weeks after I left England. I was pissed about that. You will have loads of fun there, watch out for the money exchange rates, the Euro vs the dollar is still painful. When the pound was around, the rate was 1.36 when I first arrived on station, then it dropped to a even exchange for a few days and as I was leaving it was almost 1.80 to a pound. Hope you like thick beer, since I was over seas almost my entire time in I drank lagers all the time. Can't stand mass produced American beers now, although you can get Bud and other American beers there. Although Sam Adams is real close to the type of beer over there also you can get Grolsh beer here, close to what they have over there, and Heinikin beer is different over there, way stronger. Get a Snake Bite while your in a Pub and let me know if you enjoyed it, fantastic drink with a serious kick.... But if your in a different Country you didn't go there to eat at McDonald's or drink American Beers. Get fish and chips and some Carlsberg (Danish Beer). OK I'm done now.............. whew ![]() Last edited by guitarest; 09-18-2007 at 03:48 PM. Reason: spell check |

Last week I met with engineers from Rolls Royce as we're trying to line up some work for them here so they won't have to send their equipment back to Derby. My mother is from Nottingham, and I have first cousins there that I've never met. Talking to these guys made me really want to go, so after my vac next month I'm going to start stockpiling my vac time in earnest. | |

Rep Power: 20 ![]() | Out of all the cities I loved Nottingham the most, huge place loads of history.... Land of Robin Hood, sadly though Sherwood Forrest is now just a little sign on a single tree surrounded by many soccer (foot ball) fields.... |
