Door to door service is where it's at.
Not all bands can just pack up and to head cross state lines (or county lines) for a recording session.
Some bands are simply not in a position to do that.

We're in the prossess of recording with somone.
He came to US, wich was just what we needed.

The biggest problem has been scheduling between 5 dudes. Go figure.

ummm matt.....have you ever been to my website??? i know we've had a few conversations about recording (in person and on the phone) so i'm kind of scratching my head on this one...because i know we talked about this stuff:

1) i'm down there ALL the damn time. i have been recording bands in studios down there for many years. sometimes i record the bands down there; sometimes they are in a position to come up here and record. either way is fine with me.

2) i do house calls where i bring my (high end) gear to wherever i need to go for the artist to feel creative and comfortable, (yes, financial comfort counts!) did you not follow the link in my previous post to check out matt hoggatt's stuff? (http://www.chrismara.com/matthoggatt) that was cut at his house. in gautier. which is, the last time i checked, NOT Nashville, NOR a studio.

3) i record for bands who have many thousands of dollars to spend on their album, and the very next day i record for bands who have hundreds of dollars to spend on their album. this is what i do. every band needs something different, and many times the same bands i work with will need different things at different times during their career. i strive to offer everyone something no matter where they are in their career- i feel they deserve quality, honesty, dedication and attention to detail regardless of the size of the budget.

matt, please do me a favor....go to my site - www.chrismara.com ; check out my FAQ (frequently asked questions) page. you'll see questions like "we don't live in Nashville, can we still work together?" and "i've never recorded before, can you help with the details?" and "how much does it cost to record?" answered there....do you know why? because they are FREQUENTLY asked questions. lol. i have those questions on my site because if a band wants to record with me- great. if not, fine by me- just as long as they arrived at that decision based on facts, not misconceptions about me or what i do.

Simply put,there is only a fraction of the musicians,bands,and venues left since katrina. Hence,only a fraction of musical activity at this point in time.

in your defense...there are some things i've done on the coast that i kept under wraps. for instance- several years ago i was part of a (top secret) private studio on main street in a sleepy town not too far from you guys. i guess i can talk about it now since its gone.

myself and 2 other nashville engineers were the only people with access to it; and we used it to bring our label projects down from time to time to fend off burnout and the daily distractions that come with "music row". it was nice to have an answer to the question "is there anywhere you can take these guys and actually get some f**king work done???"

i only cut one local band there...and that was because an indie label wanted to hear something better from them and didn't want to make a real big deal out of it...the band thought they were going to some small local studio, until they walked in. lol.

i didn't do any comparison shopping or anything, but i'm pretty sure it's safe to say that it was the largest studio on the gulf coast....and nobody knew about it. lol. it was fun.
