I'm not saying that I wouldn't go... just that I like the outdoor 'atmosphere' as someone put it. The title "CPR Fest" implies a festival of some sorts, it just doesn't seem like an indoor venue, that's all...

And, honestly, age doesn't automatically mean wealth. I know it does in MOST cases, but, I work in a club right now and watch the 'younger' crowd steadily spend much more money than the older ones... so that arguement can go either way. Also, when I was in highschool I always brought at least $100 at the show, not counting the tickets... part of the fun of CPR Fest was buying one of a kind stuff. I still have several bracelets and trinkets and a pipe (lol).

Am I totally crazy here, has CPR Fest changed THAT much in the 5 years I've been gone? The show that Slate44 played it was still a 'younger' crowd Mark says, that was 2002 (??). I get changing and evolution... but honestly, take a look at the number of people on this board alone that have commented on it negatively and question if those changes are really for the better...

In all honesty, I'm Irish Sweedish and living in Arizona, do you know how much I go outside...never... I whine to go check the mail...

I really don't think it's an age thing... I argue because it's in my nature (I'm a chick, what can I say) and because I think the arguement that CPR is tending to the 'older' crowd is ridiculous, but I think it's just simply the heat period... they probably got sick of people passing out from heatstroke and shit, fine... but it just sucks... CPR Fest isn't a FEST inside.

I would say the crowd that the band sees is the people who push up to the front, which is going to be more young people. The older people are more likely to hang back and drink beer. Fighting the crowd gets old after about 20 years of it!

I'm not saying that CPR is rocking to the oldies now, but they are also going to try and keep the audience that they had from prior years as well. Someone who was your age now attending the first CPR Fest would be 35 or 36 now. Those people are aging and have as much right to consideration as you do. As for the people complaining, I see people complaining about being inside the coliseum as well as those complaining about it not being outside. As in they've probably butted heads with Coliseum security and that's their real issue. If they had it outside with Coliseum security those people would be just as upset IMO.

Regardless, and I'm sorry you're bummed about it, but it is what it is and in life things change. Be happy that there still IS a CPR Fest rather than mourn the fact that it's no longer outside. Hey, on the Coast more people are probably bummed that the Fishing Rodeo is no longer in Gulfport than are worried about CPR Fest being inside. Actually the Fishing rodeo is at Point Cadet this year so if you want to do something outdoors you can cruise the rodeo and then head down 90 to CPR Fest.

If you haven't even gone to the Fest for nearly 10 years (you said 1999 was your last one and it's 2008 now) the changes shouldn't bother you so much anyway.

I understand your point. I'm just saying that things don't always stay as you want just because YOU want it that way. Life is about dealing with that.

It's obvious that WCPR prefers to have the fest inside the Coliseum, that they see it as a step up from being on the grounds. They pack the place so it looks like not enough people are deterred by it being inside for it to not draw MORE people inside than it did outside.

Therefore, it's in your best interests to get over the angst that things have changed.

The whole Coast has been devastated and changed by Katrina. 90% of all the landmarks I knew on the beach growing up here since 1958 are gone. I don't like that at all, but I have had to get over it because it's the reality of life. Whether CPR Fest is inside or outside doesn't mean shit compared to that big change.

I know this is kind of a tangent, but my point is that shit changes and you have to deal with that. It really has no tangible effect on your life because, as you said, you're not even here.

The long-term plan for the Coliseum is to build a bigger one out in Woolmarket right off of I-10 anyway. The current Coliseum will be torn down to expand the convention Center and those grounds will probably be mostly turned into additional parking.

You sure wouldn't want an outdoor CPR Fest on a Woolmarket Coliseum grounds. No sea breeze, 15 degrees hotter, LOTS more bugs. So, the Fest will move into a venue that can hold 15,000 and has fewer traffic problems because it's right off of I-10.

The vast majority of concertgoers will see that as a big improvement too. Some won't like it, but most either won't care, or will appreciate getting out of the parking lot faster on I-10 than on Hwy 90.

The Coast has changed a lot since Katrina, it's very depressing how much. People have had to learn to be grateful for what they still have, rather than crying because it isn't exactly the way it was. Those days are gone forever. Highway 90 in Harrison County is almost completely unrecognizable other than Casino Row, somewhat the area between the Coliseum and Edgewater Mall, and a few parts of Gulfport.

Sorry if I'm venting on you here, but I'm trying to give you a little perspective on the bigger picture here. If you can't deal with LOTS of things being different than you remember from before, you may have a hard adjustment to moving back here. Because it's not the same place you left several years ago. And a lot of people have had to leave because they couldn't handle that it's so different. It could be very depressing for you; it is for lots of people.

Here's the thing... you don't know me. You have no idea that amount of drastic and abrupt change I've had in my life...hell, in the last two months. I make a comment about how CPR Fest isn't the same and suddenly it gets turned into you going on and on about how I can't adapt to change... I understand the need to vent... that's what blogs are for (have you seen mine? hehehe...shameless plug...A Day in the Life of a Musician's Wife. LOL...

Did Katrina force CPR Fest inside? If so, then your point is made and I apologize, but from what you've been arguing it's inside because of the heat, Mississippi in the summer has always been hot (from what I am aware). And honestly, I didn't even say it would sway me from attending... others did, but I did not.

I'd read your blog...seriously... you should start one I think you have a lot on your mind and just need to direct it toward the right people (or none at all... does that make sense? Sometimes I write on my blog toward specific people and sometimes I write to me or to noone, or anyone, lol)
