POLICE ALERT:STING AND BAND MAY RE-UNITE

The Police, one of the biggest bands of the '80s, is reportedly preparing to reunite for a concert tour in Britain and the United States later this year, although some details need to be worked out. If it comes together, it would mark the band's first tour since it disbanded in 1986.

Billboard's online music site is reporting that the band is seriously eyeing the tour as a way to mark the 30th anniversary of the release of the single "Roxanne" -- a love song to a prostitute that made the Police stars in the U.S. Although Billboard quoted "sources" as saying the tour was close to being arranged, a memo posted on band frontman Sting's Web site cautioned that "While we can confirm that there will indeed be something special done to mark the ('Roxanne' anniversary), the depth of the band's involvement still remains undetermined."

Since breaking up 21 years ago, the trio -- Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers -- have performed together only twice, Billboard says: at Sting's 1992 wedding to Trudie Styler, and at its 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite repeated pleas from fans and concert industry folks, the band has resisted a formal reunion. It is widely believed the strongest resistance has been from Sting, who has built a huge solo career around his pop/light-jazz/yoga/tantric sex thing, which means it might look silly for him to start singing love songs about prostitutes again.

i just read that one too. we are so there if they come anywhere near us. hell, might even be worth a trip to the east or west coast. i guarantee those tickets will be north of $200 in price, but well worth it.
