Tom Petty To Play At The 2008 Superbowl In Phoenix

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been chosen to provide the half-time entertainment at this year's Superbowl.

According to Reuters, "Petty's performance will mark a rare occasion where the veteran rocker is closely aligned with a corporate sponsor, in this case the North American arm of Japanese tire firm Bridgestone Corp, which has lent its name to the halftime event.

Petty, 57, is an outspoken opponent of sponsorship of rock concerts, and his last album with the Heartbreakers, 2002's "The Last DJ," was a pointed assault on corporate greed."

I'm not that big of a Prince fan, but Tom Petty will have to work pretty hard to top his performance, if not for anything but Prince is always over the top. I'm sure it will be good, I'm glad they have been getting people who actually play instruments to perform at half-time instead of the flavor of the week pop star.

Unless it's Fergie, I can watch her strut her stuff all day.

They're probably not willing to risk another Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake incident.

Seeing Tom Petty perform is going to be pretty awesome. I'm looking forward to it already.
