NHL Anyone?

Anyone here like hockey? Have a team? Watch/keep up with it at all?

I have always liked the Philadelphia Flyers, from back in the Legion of Doom days (when I first started watching hockey). My wife is from Buffalo, so I'm a Sabres fan by default, which if anyone knows Philly and Buffalo are famous for hating each other (but everyone in the Northeast hates Philly). This is always fun when the two teams play each other.

Funny thing is, while her step dad is born and raised in Buffalo (and likes his Sabres), he is also a Flyers fan.

So anyone else?

Yeah, you have to have Versus. I catch the Sunday games on NBC (Flyers-Pens Sunday!). The Sunday Games-of-the-Week have been pretty good so far, I hope it catches back on and ESPN2 will at least pick hockey back up.

Didn't the Blackhawks pick up some hot shot player this year, or have a second year guy that is having a good season? I could be mistaken, but I thought I read that somewhere.

I like to go to the local hockey games to watch it. I can't ice skate for anything.

Hockey is more than just fighting.

The new rules are against fighting, they are trying to clean up the sport for the pussy-ass yuppie Americans who find it offensive, you still get a fight or two every now and then.

I miss the days where the enforcers ruled. A lot of good series/rivalries were based on the physical aspect of the game, and you knew someone was going to get pissed and throw down eventually.

Now it is about fast skating and scoring, apparently tv viewers do not like low scoring, close games. Give me near misses and physical play any day.

Oh, and I miss big power forwards (even though a few still exist).

yes, I remember some games that started out with a fight. As soon as the puck was dropped, the gloves came off.
Does anyone remember a red wings/avalanche game where even the goalies were fighting? good stuff
