I try not too...

there was just a program on it on Discovery today. Mark was letting our oldest watch it and we kinda ended up butting heads on the issue... I don't think he's old enough to clearly differentiate between theory and fact. We learned this when he let him watch Alien Autopsy and he slept on our floor for three months!

What's neat about the date is the correlation of that date with other cultures as the end of time. I'm not a guy who's a skeptic by nature, so I don't really buy into the whole "chicken little" mentality. Someone posted a thread on another board about undersea pyramids off the coast of Japan which have been determined to be over 10,000 years old. That is impossible according to current theories about the dates of the first civilizations.

Which leads to the Atlantis and Lemuria myths. Look, we saw what the Indian Ocean tsunami did in 2004. Something like that could well have all but wiped out previous civilizations and left no traces until now, when our technology lets us find things like the undersea pyramids.

My point is that it's quite possible that these dates and the means of determining them all came from a common source, f5om a civilization that is now unknown or legendary to us.

But that doesn't mean I believe the world will end on that date. Something profound may happen, but the end of the world has been predicted since the beginning of time. For thousands of years each generation has thought they'd see the end of time.

It will be interesting to see what happens on that day, though. Y2K was supposed to herald the collapse of technological civilization too, and look what happened - not much....
