Rep Power: 9 ![]() | lets discuss why this board is doing poorly 1- why do you think this board is lacking in particpating members 2- what are you going to do as a contributing board member to change that.

Rep Power: 9 ![]() | Lack of knowledge of the site's awesome-ness... hahaha Seriously, I don't think many people know about it at all... I will help spread the word. Also, more posting about your band would help too... I'm a fan of music period and the complete song process is amazing to me, so I'd like to hear more about what everyone's doing music wise and maybe some insight to the songs??? I don't know, I'm trying...

Rep Power: 42 ![]() | Maybe it's because folks are too serious? No, seriously. I've been trying to participate more lately and stop douching out by lurking. But I think the board reflects the scene. Nothing's going on because people are staying in their comfort zones. I think some of the long-running bands should break off and mix it up. Switch members. Some bands have great players, but they're not like-minded. Let's take the radio guys and band em up with the radio guys, and take the free thinkers and mash them together too. Let's spend more time promoting the more original and talented acts like Mandown or Kiss The Cop (are they still together?) and less time promoting comfort bands who seem to have somewhat bigger names even though they don't necessarily draw bigger crowds or play better music. Also, let's not be afraid to play what is in our hearts instead of trying to play from our wallets. I have a soapbox, and I am not afraid to tell you that if you're not going to innovate then you should make room for the music nerds. But the truth is that since the industry is changing, a lot of people are losing faith. The album format is just about out the window and the prospects of that big record deal are becoming slimmer by the day. I know the question Bert posed was regarding the board and not the scene, but I think that happenings on the board are directly proportionate to happenings on the scene. We can't have a Gulf Coast Bands board if we don't have any gulf coast bands.

Rep Power: 9 ![]() | Thanks Ron thats a fresh and different way of looking at it. You are right it wasn't about the scene. The lack of participation of local band members, and fans. Man down is gaining popularity in mobile, and in my opinion may be the next big thing. KTC moved to dallas (i think) they are (were) raw, new, and refreshing for lack of better words. My music scene is good. Adaptation is the key. Notice I didn't say sell out. Selling out for losers, and I'm not a loser. It was time for Adam and I to part ways. Is he any better off. In my opnion NOPE. He is no longer writing new material. His new band is still learning most of the old material we used to cover. Am I? I'm happy playing covers well, and making a few bucks. I'm easy to please. Lets face it the cost of equipment and gas isn't going down. 3 options: 1- Either you adapt and play for fun, and get paid playing covers. 2- stay in the garage, get better, or 3- say fuck it, get out and play, sound like ass, and never get booked anywhere. Good song writers...did they pack up and move away after Katrina? I haven't heard anything from a local band that made me say damn thats good. I want to know why local bands don't use this board to promote shows?

Rep Power: 26 ![]() | Why not here???? I answered a direct question with a direct answer and was called out for bullshit. Now this being me and you it's not an issue but to the less experienced it is. Notice the "GIVE ME A BREAK" thread and you'll see the departure of one of the strongest bands in the region. Open discussion on this subject is great but we must be extremely careful not to follow Alice down the rabbit-hole but Marc to the dream. |

Rep Power: 12 ![]() | I think myspace contributes to the decline of messageboards in general. The idea of a messageboard has become a bit archaic. Myspace allows a band to do everything themselves and not necessarily rely on a community. Messageboards are not name-dropped during shows or advertised anymore. It is always "visit our page at www.myspace.com/shittyband." I understand the importance of the media, and changing with the times, but I use to hate myspace just for the simple fact that every band would name drop their myspace page on stage. Yeah, I know it is there, if I am interested I will look it up. I think this contributes to and idea of "now we can do this on our own" -vs- "lets rely on our friends in bands to help us." The scene wasn't in the best of shape 4-5 years ago when everyone was trying, now there seems to be a lot of apathy. So advertise the board, name drop it at shows, I remember when you would see bumper stickers with message boards' names stuck all over town. If you want a community you have to form a community. If it turns out to be a positive experience for all bands involved (show swapping, promotion, ect.)it will grow. |
