Rep Power: 47 | | | the age old debate between creationism and evolution. here we go again, but a little different. can the THEORIES of creationism and evolution coexist, or do they completly cancel each other out.
to me creationism alone is to vague and leaves to much tp speculation and blind faith. but evolution alone is more precise and scientific, but still leaves to many questions. together, as a man who believes in the divine, but also has a scientific mind, i can see a structure in nature, even at its most random. almost a design to it. what is you opinion.

Rep Power: 45 | | Most human beings have an innate fear of the dark, and of being alone. (I think it goes back to primitive caveman days, - 100,000 years ago.)
In order for some people to have peace of mind, they "must" believe there is some kind of creator/protector watching over them. (be it Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, or whatever). Maybe as humans, we never really grow up out of that basic insecure stage of the need to feel protected, or be watched over while we sleep etc. Maybe its a "missing daddy syndrome" or something. I tend to put most fanatical christians in with things like Loch Ness monster, Sasquatch, UFO sightings and ppl who claim they were abducted by aliens. I forget who originally wrote it, but there was a saying that read something like, If there was no God, man would have to create one. In order to fill in the void for things we cannot understand.
I have a hard time believing there is a old man wearing a toga, and a long white beard, up in the clouds watching me, and writing down everything I do, so that one day he can ask me about it after I die.
But anyways, thats just my opinion,
youre entitled to yours too.
(Go ahead and quote scripture and flame me if ya want, )

It was written by men, and therefore, inherently flawed. People have a knack for only using the parts of the Bible that are convenient to them. For instance, most conservative Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin. Why? It say so in the Bible. But what about the part of the Bible that condones slavery? Why aren't the Christians fighting for their right to own slaves?
This gem comes from rationalresponders.com: Quote: |
Numbers 15:32-36, "And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses." And most of us drive daily on saturdays (and sundays). Poor guy, too bad he wasn't born just a few thousand years later, when people didn't kill somebody because they thought some ancient words in a holy book told them so....
| Do I believe in God? Yes. Is he an old man wearing a toga, and a long white beard, up in the clouds watching me, and writing down everything I do, so that one day he can ask me about it after I die? Not exactly. See Ben Marble's definition of God - that fits my belief a little better. To me, God is a guiding force in the universe, giving things a general direction, but allowing free will to actually steer the course of events. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | There is nothing scientific about evolution. There is no evidence in the fossil record to support evolution. Am I to believe that by random mutation and happenstance that human beings "evolved" into the complex organism that now exists? If mutations are truly random, then how come some creatures didn't evolved eyes on their feat or horns coming out of their asses? Surely somewhere along the line the random mutations might have gone a little too random i.e. penises on forhead.
