Here's the kicker, when we moved here, Mark and I weren't married and we were on Medicaid because I didn't have insurance and they automatically kicked it over to Arizona for me and the kids and even put him on it (we weren't even married). When I got here, I had to bring them the lease and that so we could keep the medical unil Marks kicked in (60 days). Those fuckers approved me for EVERYTHING. $800 in foodstamps, $400 in cash, Housing, Childcare and Medical. I, being the dumbass (apparently) told them I'd rather they give it to someone who really needs it because Mark was making good money and I felt bad. And you know what the girl told me in her half Spanish half English attitude "If I were you, I'd take the money".
We won't need it after Friday, we are just running out of shit (you know how it is, you get paid and the night before you run out of toilet paper, haha) and I really didn't want to have to ask Mommy and Daddy for shit. |

but you weren't the dumbass, you did the right thing in your mind, which is what most any sensible minded person would have done.
I had to get assistance (f/s and medicaid) several years ago.
They pretty much forced it on me, "for the children".
I lived high on the hog with the food stamps, and had money left, every month.
The children were well care for medically, and dentally.
Even though I just came off employment with great benefits, I was unemployed.
I can see why people don't want to work.
I sure as hell didn't want to. I had it made working on the side, and playing music.
What does unemployment pay these days? $250/wk?
Food stamps for a family of 5? $500/mo?
I'm way better off for taking this job, and keeping it.

Rep Power: 16 | | | I feel ya there. In Reno we were one of those families that fell right in between where we made JUST enough to make it, with foodstamps, medicaid and childcare assistance, but if I went full time and we lost those benefits, we wouldn't make it, we'd make about $600 more a month, but childcare was $200/wk so that took care of that right there and that's not even counting the foodstamps that we'd lose ($587 for 4 of us). They pretty much forced us to live struggling or not live at all. When we moved here, Mark made 4 times BOTH our incomes combined...alone. If I was to return to work though, I'd basically be going to work to pay for daycare because for 3 kids it's about $280/wk... I'd be working full time for about $200 a week if that.
Basically, the REAL problem is the wages. Who can feed a family on $10/hr these days?? We sure can't. |

She free lances photography which you can't rely on for regular money.
I need a new ride, she isn't far behind me.
Just don't see it happening right now.
But our worries are alot less than ya'lls.

Society sucks, but I have faith our children's generation could actually change that. |
