A male relative of mine at times refers to women as "old broads"... he is by no means a redneck or lacks class... except when he says this. It irks me more than I will let on.
As far as being called an old lady, I see your point although I've never been called an old lady. Many guys may mean it as a sign of endearment, but when I hear it, I'm reminded of all the stereotypes... and a sailor-mouthed woman with a pack of Dorals in one hand and a paper bagged Natural Light in the other.
