Let's Discuss the Radio Station 97.9 CPR.

This is our primary rock radio station here on the MS Gulf Coast. What do you think about it? Do you think they have a good and diverse play list? What about the radio dj's on there? Are they cool or a bunch of shit for brain lower than whale terds?

They have the Lex and Terry show, Denver Crabb, the 420 fix, the home grown show.

What do you think about the candy stripers?

Discuss the band competitions CPR had held for the various shows on the coast. What about the actual events they have had? Did you like CPRfest, going to the Jingle Ball Show? Like the contests?

I hate the lex and terry thing....I want to hear music in the morning not a bunch of babbling from people that think they are funny.

I really can't say.I don't pick up that station here.But I will say that the employees of that station that I have met seem to be genuine.And the events they promo seem to be a rockin good time for most.

I'm with Tim, all I want to hear in the am is music, but all the stations have some jack-asses in the mornin'.

CPR seems like the kid in school who dressed like a tough guy, but if you pushed him down ....he'd cry. IOW -They talk a big game, but I've never heard any underground bands or regional acts on CPR.
The music that get's air time is just whatever the management gets paid to play on the air.

I really don't listen to the radio to begin with, but it seems like CPR has thier favorites when it comes to the local scene.
They do have the Home Grown show wich I applaud them for. At least there is that.

With all that said, if they're making $ why should they change thier format?

It's a small town type of station. They have ZERO competition.

CPR is too corporate these days. I remember when they were first getting started around here...they were the shit then. Now it just doesn't feel the same. Playlist is too limited. I mean they added in classic rock...but it's the same old tired songs. If they were going to add classic rock they could at least pick some cool album cuts. Anyway like I said too corporate...they are controlled by some company who probably owns half of the rock stations across the country. It's a shame radio has come to this. As far as local....you definately have to be in the "click" to get anywhere with them....I mean they do have the homegrown show which is cool...but the time period in which it airs the only people listening to it are the bands that are calling them and begging them and taking them cookies and gifts and stuff in hopes that they will play their song so the rest of the 12 people listening at that time can bash it because they are all in the other bands trying to get played. As far as the competitions around here goes....LOL. TK101 is better.

When I first moved here in 1998, they played some great music. Even the CPRFest that year totally kicked ass - very diverse, with the Violent Femmes to Better than Ezra and Cowboy Mouth and everything in between.
Now......
Lex and Terry suck. 2 morons that like to laugh at their own jokes.
We met John Marty during the live remote we played at Shockwave. Very cool guy. And, of course, just about everyone on this board knows Special K - always good to see him.
Summary - the Dj's are great, but the format and morning show, IMHO, suck.
