Just heard on the news that George Carlin died of heart failure at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica yesterday evening at age 71. This really sucks, he was one of the most brilliant and topical comedians of our time.

When I lived in Santa Monica, I was lucky enough to know George Carlin over the telephone. He was a customer of the plumbing company where I was office manager. Never met him in person, but I spoke to him and his wife Brenda many times over 14 years. He was just a great guy who could crack you up telling you about the stopped-up toilet! No star ego at all and he treated us all with humor. affection and respect.

Of course he was an iconic comedian with a razor-sharp wit and will be hugely missed.

Rest in peace, George, and thanks for the laughs....

I found out at 6am yesterday morning watching the news. I cried a little. I grew up listening to him. My brother and I would sneak my Mom's Carlin tapes and listen to them when she wasn't around.
