The only reason bars hire bands is they can clear $1000 for paying you $500 or lose money on Saturday night. So what is the unique advantage GCB offers to music in 08? An off-beat chat-room or insight into bigger draws, wider fan-base, and more money? We need 50 people to show up, have a drink, listen to somebody they have never heard before, and talk about THEM AND THEIR MUSIC/VENUE in person and on GCB. The daily subject-matter here would surely change. |

| You've got the cure right there bro.
What needs to change is the quality of music bands are putting out there.
If your band sucks, stay at home and practice.
My band is not the best, nor I the best, but I have heard and seen much worse.

When I booked it I told them we would show up and play,,,,,,, I didn't say a fucking thing about being good. That's the reason it's called an APEARENCE CONTRACT. |

That contract will only protect you for that weekend or duration of the contract, and if you are that bad the venues will have you blackballed forever, and tell other venues. So much for using them as a reference.
I was told this from a coast venue owner about a local cover/original band here on the coast and I quote...
"they came out like gang busters, sounded fantastic on the first set, then set by set the drunker they got the worse they sounded. they couldn't hardly stand up to play the last set. I won't be having them back."
I drink when I play, but not to the point where it effects my playing.
I'll agree with you that some things you can only learn by experience on the stage but honing the skills have to be done at home, and practice.

Look at the gigs posted by bands that don't join in the banter.
THERE AREN'T MANY!
The ones there are don't have any responses, and very few hits, then think what a waste of time, they have NO support here.
If I was depending on anyone from this board to come to my shows there would be no one there!

If bands would look at using GCB like this...
I'll post my show anyway... someone is bound to see it.
Leave no stone unturned when trying to get people to your gig.
