I’m no dietitian, and never have had a weight problem to speak of, but think about this for a minute….

We live in a culture where we’re told to clean our plates….”don’t throw anything out…if you put on your plate you better eat it”….. Our parents and grandparents didn’t always have it so easy so you can understand why they felt the way they did. But obviously (and thankfully) we don’t have that to worry about today. So…

The next time you pick up a plate or bowl and fill it up, hold that plate or bowl in your hand. Feel the heft, the weight of it. That weight won’t magically dissolve when you eat it, it’s going into you.

There are stimuli in your brain that tell you when you’ve had enough; when you’re full, but thanks to the way we’ve been brought up, we ignore the signals. The signal is there, identify it, and stop eating when you’ve had enough. It’s not easy at first, but it’ll get easier as you go. Best of luck to you

While not very eloquent, Steverino has a point. I've started paying attention to quantity as opposed to watching what I eat. I don't eat as much as I used to. It's helped quite a bit.

Actually closer to 30lbs now that I think about it. I weigh 147 I want to weigh 120 again.

I've struggled with weight my whole life. It takes work...a lot of work. I have lost over 100lbs since 2001, so I know how to do it. Tricks and fads do not work long term. It's all about calories consumed and calories burned.

Don't believe any of that don't eat white things, eat only protein, eat all fruits and veggies, or only soup, or whatever else crazy thing you hear people say. You've got to learn a new way of eating; a way of eating that you can stick to for the rest of your life.

I can recommend two things: www.WeightWatchers.com or www.sparkpeople.com

No food are off-limits, just everything in moderation. Sparkpeople is free, btw.

I'd be happy to answer any questions or give advice if you need or want it.
