Rep Power: 17 | | | Kids and music Ok, so since I see many of us here have kids both older and maybe even younger than mine, I have to ask... what is your stance on music?
Like what are they allowed or not allowed to listen to?
Do you explain the true meaning of some of the lyrics if they ask?
We've always screened their television and movies, but Mark and I are both so passionate about music that we rarely screen our music. We do change it on a few strong language songs, like that one Deftones song that says FUCK (I don't do good with names...it's that FUCK song to me! haha) over and over... but that's just because we didn't want our three year old greeting Grandma with that... lol...But our oldest is getting to where he asks what some of Mark's lyrics mean and today what Aerosmith's Pink meant... we chickened out both times and used the old "we'll explain when you're older" thing... but at what age is older??? |

Rep Power: 24 | | | My girls are mostly grown now, the oldest is 20, the youngest 15. I never told them what they could or couldn't listen to, but would throw in the sneer or stupid remark every now and then. What wound up happening since they grew up with my music always playing, was all my Pink Floyd, Zep and Beatles cds disappearing into their rooms. Not a bad thing. |

My parents listened to the Eagles, Aerosmith, Lynard Skynard, Queen... I remember being curious as to what they meant, and just accepting that they were dark but not taking it into too much consideration. At 16, I'd rather go to see Aerosmith (obviously still a favorite) than ANYTHING that was out and popular. |

Rep Power: 43 | | | I have always played it straight with my kids. If they ask I tell them and then explain to them why they shouldn't use the words in everyday conversation. They go to public school and I figure they hear worse there. This way I can at least be the one teaching them. |

Rep Power: 50 | | | Since I don't have kids...
My mom was always pretty lenient on the music that I listened to when I was a kid. Then again, I listen to pretty much the same music as my mom anyway. We both LOVE 80s metal. I still love hearing the stories from my mom when she was younger of all the concerts she went to.
