lets just say, Gulfcoastbands was able to get their own stage during the cprfest,
then WE could handle all the local bands for the cprfest, AND be able to raise money with the tens of thousands of people that come out for cprfest. we could have our own vendor spot setup to sell local bands' merch., and also take donations, maybe hold a raffle for donated instruments, and also, someone that provides music lessons could donate their time as well. the possibilities are endless really.
this way, CPR doesn't have to foot the bill on anything, other than "donating" space at the venue for us. for a good cause.

This would all be contigent on cpr having a fest next year, but hey, what better reason to have one. It could be a concept fest.

i don't cpr would be a nice towards the donation thing.. that's just from personal knowledge.. they need to pay bills to make bills that's just the corp. side of the knowing.. just just what i think.. i just realized it myself

once everything seems to be inplace, then it might be a better time to approach cpr. exactly how many bands, what and where the donations are going to, and all the fine details, like dates, location.

we have to have a beer license to sell beer there don't we? or is that just for the individual stands?.. i dunno.. see these are the kinda thing that need to be known.. i'm just blabbing again..

Not sure...first we need to find out where we are going to have it. I can have the Fair Grounds booked maybe on a Friday night? Doesn't look too good for the upcoming year. They are really booked up. I know I have a chance in 2008. Would that give us enough time to do it then?

We'd have our own place, own bands and not really have to bum off of CPR due to the fact of the earlier comment that they need money too.

Question: Any other places around here big enough to hold lots of people?

you have to get insurance as well. if you sell alcohol, your insurance for the event goes up drastically

i said the SRM.. but that's looking more and more bleek.. what about where they held rockin' relief and indiefest at (if anyone still remember indiefest)?... it's a big open field..

I have a feeling, this is going to take a while to get together. I guess maybe we should put this off until 2008. I think using the Fair Grounds would be the better choice instead of trying to get in with CPR Fest. I see that there's many many things to get orgainzed.

I talked to Dr. Andy Parks about raising the money for the schools music program. Looks like we would have to donate the money and put to the music program and not have the schools involved at all in this matter of fund raising. Which might or might not actually get used.

I've talked to Magnolia Music about helping out kids who need instruments and music lessons. I dont know what else to do.

I've talked to the fair grounds and they are completely booked up on all Saturdays this coming year. I dont think Sunday would be a good day and Friday would be too short cause of people working.

I'm just sort of shot for ideas at the moment. Unless we have it this year at Gautier High School. I could call them and find out if we could do that or not. But your looking at packing out the place, so we might not have enough room to have it there.

It was just a thought. Sorry to be sounding depressing and down in the dumps today. I'm just not feeling well.

by 2008 , a lot of these bands won't even be around. If you ask me, thats too far off. Don't let not finding a venue discourage you.

When we did "what a mess fest" at the Long Beach Pavilion back in '98 after Hurricane Georges, we had to get the approval from the long beach police department which gave us permits to be noisy and some barricades and cones, then a alcohol license to sell beer only. Liquor is way too expensive, I dont remember having to get insurance, but that could have been involved with getting the license to sell beer. After that, we went to the chamber of commerce which helped us out a lot, with the details and planning. Maybe you could try there. they might have some ideas on venues also.

Getting in on the CPR fest would have to come from CPR obviously, but we would have to let them know that we could cover a lot of the groundwork, and money to get it going.
