Rep Power: 47 ![]() | Parvo Virus If your dogs are not vaccinated against Parvo GET IT DONE!! I can't stress this enough. This is an extremly contagious, tenicous, and deadly virus. It can live in the ground for over a year. It's as easily spread as walking through a yard that had a Parvo Puppy, come home and your puppy can get it. This virus mostly attacks puppies but that's because most adult dogs are vaccinated. It also takes several shots for the pup to be protected, although vaccinated adult dogs can still get it. Nothing can kill it...but bleach helps. I picked up Daisy, my puppy, from the Humane Society on April 23. On April 26 she was throwing up and had bloody diarreha. Took her to the vet and she has Parvo. We have spent, so far, over $1200 trying to save her. The incubation period is 7-10 days before they display symptoms. Which means she picked it up before I got her. But the Humane Society can't do anything about it. And, of course, they didn't test for it because she didn't display any symptoms at the time. She did, however, come with insurance for 30 days. But that only covers $500. She is home now because we cant' afford anymore hospitlizations. I'm not sure if she is going to pull through yet or not. I hope so... Dog owners, pleasepleasepleaseplease vaccinate your dogs! |

Rep Power: 47 ![]() | I haven't reached that point yet...she was doing well when we brought her home. I just got off the phone with the vet. She is going to teach me how to give her a subcutaneous injection, which is giving her the hydration she needs through a shot, much like an IV. She isn't getting nearly the amount of fluids she needs and is going down hill rather quickly. That's one of the biggest things with Parvo. It's not usually the actuall virus that gets them, it's the dehydration or a secondary infection some how because of the lower blood count. So...send good puppy dog vibes for me...for Daisy. |

Rep Power: 35 ![]() | Good luck...my dog got parvo when she was about 2. She got it from going in my mom's yard 6 months after her dog had it. It almost killed her. I don't even remember how much $$ it cost...alot. She's all good now, but she had a tough go with it for awhile. I hope the best for you and your puppy. |
