Rep Power: 15 ![]() ![]() | Question for bassists. Do you use any effects on your rig? I have used an auto wah with distortion, and a chorus before, and felt it was not needed as time moved on. Now...Bare bones. I use compression only. Its built in and I can set it where its tight, and punchy but not limiting.

Rep Power: 16 ![]() | I always liked fuzz pedals combined with a bass, but only in certain musical stylings. I was in a band with a bass player who used a Boss Metal Distortion pedal and a Boss Super Chorus, but our first bass player was a straight into the amp guy. I do not play bass so I guess I do not qualify. |

Rep Power: 46 ![]() | I've used distortion on occasion, but never really relied too heavily on effects for bass. 8-string thru OD- yikes. BIG sound. Tasty. I've got a Roland V-bass that's pretty fun to goof around with, but unless you're doing a bass-centric project it seems like most fx are overkill. I think Tony uses an octave divider for a few AM songs, it gives a nice 8-string kind of tone, and he likes some distortion or overdrive now and then, but that's about it. Live, anyway. We try to keep an 'anything goes' kind of attitude in the studio. |

Rep Power: 29 ![]() | HELL YEAH!!!!!!!! AND THEN SOME. You know I've always been a PEAVY man and they have been very good to me but, when I "unretired" after more than 10 years I thoroughly researched damn near every amp on the market. I play a PEAVY BAM because it's 100lbs, 2x10, 500 watts, and IS a studio in a box. You'd be surprised the amount of goofy shit they put on bass in the studio that appears normal on record. Most of this transfers very to live when applied to individual proper material. We "bass-owners" are basically a lazy bunch. Give us 18s, some compression, more power than God, a couple of stiff drinks and we will bottom-end the hell out of everybody and everything all night long. Could we do more finesse song to song? Well,,,,, yes but, it would probably interfere with our buzz. |

I too was a die hard peavey bass amp player...until...I discovered MESA BOOGIEs infectionous tone. It was love at first audibles...LOL
