| risk alienating listeners, or not? I read something a while back having to do with posting band flyers or describing your band's sound or 'gimmicks' for press/promotional materials, and it basically said you shouldn't be afraid to make negative mention of other styles of music or artists in your promotional media.
For example, it was saying for a flyer a band might advertise the show, and mention "fans of Celine Dion or Nickleback need not attend"
or "if you like (whomever) you won't like us!"
just wondering how other folks felt about that tactic. It seems a little weird to me, but their point was that if your friends/demographic doesn't tend to like Celine Dion anyway, then you're not likely to alienate or offend them. |
