He's hurting Obama by going high-profile right now. I think he's doing it on purpose because he didn't like Obama distancing himself from him. He's teaching Obama a lesson right now about standing with your allies or paying for it.

And Wright will be fine after all this, but Obama might be screwed. Wright's admiration for Farrakhan, for example, shows that to American blacks, black solidarity is even more important than their Christian religion. That black solidarity is more important than the differences between Christians and Muslims.

Except that Farrakhan, if he had the power, would probably one day offer Wright the choice between conversion to Islam or beheading. Wright probably would tolerate Farrakhan remaining Musilm though, because christians gave up killing unwilling converts a few centuries back.

People(excluding Mr Wright himself) are not nearly as racist as Mr. Wright etc believe.

BUT, this is so DEAD SIMPLE that even those "bitter small town folks clinging to their guns and religion" can understand it.

Before Wright you had white people who WOULD vote for Barak solely because he was black and you also had some who would vote against him for the same reason. They would have canceled each other out and Barak probably would have even gotten the edge as I think the first group (guilty white liberals) outnumbers the second (unreconstructed racists).

But now you ad to that second group all the white people who won't vote for ANY RACIST (regardless of his skin color) for president. That is a HUGE number!!!!

The polls at this point become meaningless because people will tell the pollster they are going to vote for a black man to make themselves sound "enlightened/tolerant etc" but they will not vote for a racist when they get into that booth.

And that, by the way, is a good thing!!!!

Yeah, Barack repudiated Wright today but the damage is done. Especially since the tone of Barack's speech was basically "He be fukkin' wit' ME now!"

For those who don't. Edwin Edwards was the governor of Louisiana. He was convicted of at lest one felony (accepting bribes or something relating to the governorship) and spent like 5 years or so in PRISON. To say the least his political career was OVER!!!!

David Duke was a "reconstructed" Klansman. In other words he was a KKK leader who wore a suit, looked pretty, and wasn't quite so blatant about his racism. He always spoke of himself as supporting the white race not tearing down blacks.

So, I believe it was in 1996 or so David Duke announces he is running for governor of Louisiana. Edwards, who by this time was out of prison, ran against him. People in Louisiana KNEW Edwards was a crook (this wasn't one of those cases where people say, "oh they got him on a technicality"). In fact bumper stickers started showing up saying "Elect the Crook. It is Important". And they reelected Edwards because they didn't want a racist like David Duke to be their governor.

Now think about this. This was LOUISIANA not California, Oregon or Massachusetts. Louisiana is NOT a hotbed of political correctness. In fact Louisiana is full of small town people, the type Obama characterizes as "clinging to their religion and guns" and "showing antipathy for that which is different from them". And yet these small town people did NOT HESITATE to vote for an ADMITTED CROOK rather than the shiny new racist!!!

good point will, Obama is very much like Duke, only worse. Duke was a crook himself, I remember him getting busted for going to the casino on donations made to him. Just something about those LA politicians.

If Obama is denied the nomination, the drive-bys are all going to go crazy talking about how racist whitey is.

Now if you were actually fair-minded/objective and an actually halfway competent reporter how hard would it be for you to look up the Edwards/Duke race?

It wouldn't be hard at all. Your storyline is going to be how racist white people are so you'd LOOK FOR elections involving a racist candidate in the hopes you could confirm your theory by saying, "see, in this election the white people voted for a racist. Therefore they are racist."

NostraWilthrill GUARANTEES that should Obama be denied the nomination NONE of the drive-bys will mention Edwards/Duke because it weakens their whitey is a racist argument. Edwards/Duke IS out there and Wilthrill isn't the only one who remembers it (it was a national story with even the REPUBLICAN President at the time saying people should vote for the DEMOCRAT rather than the racist) but Wilthrill will be the only one to even mention it!!!
