| Well whether you agree or disagree with his views he did at least have the courage of his convictions. For example, he preached against adultery and apparently, unlike other televangelists he was able to keep his pants on. Also, Falwell wasn't afraid to say what he believed and unlike most other televangelists actually left a legacy (25,000 student Liberty University) that benefitted others moreso than himself. There are literally thousands of students with stories of how Falwell paid their tuition PERSONALLY or helped them in some other way.
Also, believe it or not, AFTER the libel lawsuit against Hustler/Larry Flint, Falwell PUBLICLY reached out to Flynt calling him his friend. Flynt remain his friend until Falwell's death yesterday.
In other words, there was good and bad in him. Sadly the drive-bys will only concentrate on the bad. |
