The dems are already talking about having to raise taxes. Funny that wasn't the talk I was hearing before the elections. Not that I am surprised. Par for the course.

Another way the Neocons can rebound-have their oil buddies raise gas prices now so that in the next election the Republicans can say "See, the Dems screwed it up. Gas prices were going down before they took the majority!".

I'm holding out hope it will be a stalemated congress for the next two years and the democrats won't do anything brash. I think there will be too much jockeying for power between Clinton and Pelosi that I don't think the Dems will do anything of substance.

yes they do, why do you think Bush/Cheney were elected in the first place? They own stocks in big oil. So, they arent just getting payoffs, they are making millions in stocks as well.

The oil companies are the reason every president gets elected. They lobby day in and day out in Washington.

Snackbar, it could be said of virtually EVERY MEMBER of congress that "they own stocks in big oil. So, they arent just getting payoffs, they are making millions in stocks as well."

Geez,, last time I checked Al Gore wasn't a republican? His family has huge ties to the evil oil industry. Occidental Petroleum to be specific.

And it is not just big bad oil either.

San Fran Nancy Pelosi has plenty of BIG BUSINESS ties (e.g. her husband has made literally millions of dollars from big companies affected by his wife's vote in congress). The Pelosis own a chain of hotels and resturants and isn't it funny that this champion of the unions and little guys does NOT allow unions to set up shop in HER BUSINESSES.

Then there's Ted Kennedy, John "Heinz" Kerry etc. In fact, I'd bet money that the democrats in congress are wealthier than their republican counterparts

So please, let's not PRETEND the big money is republican only.
