I agree with that too, but the problem is that what began as the civil rights movement has turned into a cottage industry for Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton et al to perpetuate the problem for their financial gain.

And many blacks will listen to them no matter what because they are associated with Martin Luther King Jr. and are viewed somewhat the way the 12 Apostles were viewed as associated with Jesus. Of course those 12 were a motley crew too!

I just do my best to stay objective, although no one truly can be with this kind of thing. We're all formed by our experiences of these things. That's why something that you as a 24-year-old might not see, I as a 49-year-old can, and vice versa of course. I just remember separate restrooms and water fountains, blacks letting whites go ahead in grocery checkouts, and my school didn't integrate til 2nd grade. I remember the teacher giving us the "The Negroes are coming" speech the week before integration happened.

If you were born 20 or 30 years later, you would have no experience of these things, which is why it would seem natural to say a noose could mean anything.

Damn, this makes me feel old!

junkernaut sperm just hit the egg
i loved this so much, i ahad to add it here

This was written to the head of the NAACP in Atlanta on the
Michael Vick affair. I love it when a white guy can gently yet
logolically put things into perspective.

An Open Letter to the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP

Dear Dr. R L White, Head of the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP,

My name is Mike. I am 27, and I am neither a member of your
organization nor a resident of Atlanta. Normally I wouldn't bother you,
but then I came across this article, and it compelled me to write.

Since I am white, I am going to tread carefully, so as not to
offend your gentle sensibilities. But, Dr. White, you are a dumb fuck.

Speaking for white people everywhere, let me fill you in on
something. This case was not a race issue. It was about killing dogs.
And if there is one thing people don't stand for, regardless of race,
it's killing dogs. You compared it to deer hunting. Again, Dr. White,
you are a dumb fuck. When was the last time a deer greeted you at the
door when you got home from work? Or curled up next to you and gently
nuzzled in to take a nap? Dogs are pets, you moron. They aren't meant to
be killed for sport. The failure to make this distinction only makes you
look stupider.

Sorry, I lost my temper there.

Here's the thing, Dr. White. The reason people were outraged by
this was because he killed dogs. If Ben Roethlisberger or Brett Favre
had done it, the reaction would have been the same, I guarantee you. The
difference is, had Ben Roethlisberger or Brett Favre done this, you
wouldn't see white supporters rallying behind them, proclaiming he was
innocent in the face of mountains of damning evidence, supporting him
regardless of the outcome. Let me let you in on a secret about white
people; when one of our own makes us look bad, we condemn him and disown
them. I suggest you adopt a similar policy. If your group's mission is
truly to advance "colored" people (your word, not mine) you'd
disassociate from the idiots in your race. It can't go wrong, trust me.

Anyway, Dr. White, I don't want this to come off as racist,
because it isn't. Michael Vick is a despicable person who happens to be
black. The sooner you realize that, the less of a dumb fuck you'll look
like.

Sincerely,

Mike

Excellent.
Anyone know what Dr. King was doing in that hotel room just before he was "assassinated"?
A white woman, who was not his wife.
But, that's not the point. Hypocrisy. Kind of like saying that a student who had nothing to do with the nooses being hung on a tree, getting beat by those of another race (who avoided being charged with a "Hate Crime") somehow deserved it. Pure bullshit. And the reason this story is being perpetuated? CNN is in it for the ratings. They want to inflate a false controversy to get more viewers.

"I have a dream of a day when a man is judged by the content of his character not the color of his skin"

Somehow it seems that the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons are the ONES who judge by the color of one's skin.

I watched an interview with some college students from Georgia who were on their way to Jena to protest. One of the students made the comment "I was not alive for Birmingham, so this is my chance to help the struggle". To me, this is the most offensive comment I have heard. To compare this with the black civil rights struggle is appaling and an insult to those who truly fought for equality.

I agree that there is an issue in this country where the punishment often does not fit the crime (in both directions). But playing the race card only takes the light from the real issues.

The fact is, if I beat the hell out of someone who insults me, I am no less guilty for my motive. And as a very respected black friend of mine once said (on the issue of favortism due to race) "If they give it to you they can take it away". The civil rights struggle was about equality, not favortism.
