So I'm flipping thru channels last night and come upon the Daily Show with John Stewart. Sometimes I watch it because it is funny sometimes (although Colbert is far funnier). Sometimes Stewart just pisses me off with his misunderstanding of whatever he's talking about.

So Stewart is doing a bit on waterboarding and how the US says it isn't torture. Apparently Stewart has dug up some info of where America criticized the Japanese for waterboarding and called it torture. Obviously this must have been during World War 2. Now pointing out that America said before that it was torture and now says that it is not IS fair game. I don't have a problem with that.

But of course in his zeal to SHIT-TALK America Mr Stewart could not restrain himself and SEVERAL times said the US was NO DIFFERENT than Japan with respect to it's treatment of prisoners.

Mr Stewart you FUCKING MORON, obviously you have a deep hatred of history!!! To say because we share ONE TRAIT (waterboarding) we are the same as Imperial Japan in our treatment of prisoners is so STUPID as to win you nomination into the Moron of the Year Club. We also restrain our prisoners as the Nazis did the jews so I guess, based on your "rationale", you could also say our treatment of prisoners is no different than the Nazis treatment of Jews.

Have you ever heard of the Rape of Nanking, Mr Stewart? The Japanese raped pillaged and killed over 6 million civilians!!!

Perhaps you'd like to compare the Bataan Death March (might require that you do some reading to acquaint yourself with it) to Guantanamo Bay?

Let's see Gitmo - inside and air conditioned
Bataan - roughly TEN DAY FORCED MARCH in 100 degree heat

Gitmo - average prisoner eating better than average american. gaining weight
Bataan - no food whatsoever the heat and starvation kill literally thousands

Gitmo - Koran provided, library, etc
Bataan - bayonet to the back provided.

Gitmo - prisoners "protesting" flushed Korans etc NOT ONE PRISONER DEAD
Bataan - thousands of DEAD!!!

So Mr Stewart, if you are too fucking LAZY to actually READ a little history, stick to your dumbass jokes and let those who are actually aware of what happened discuss it!!! Because one of the dirty little secrets of World War 2 is that Imperial Japan committed as many war crimes as the Nazis but the Japanese weren't punished for it!!!! And the US may or may not have some problems with how it treats prisoners but it is IN NO WAY COMPARABLE to Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan in that regard!!!!

Maybe he meant in the sense of waterboarding, we were like that. Kind of a broad-based claim by him though. How funny can he actually be until the writer's strike is over?

Well here's the thing Mikael.

Liberals can say ANYTHING (compare our troops to Imperial Japan or the Nazis or terrorists raiding homes in the dead of night) and it is either "free speech" or "humor" and thus something to be protected. Hell they made a movie just last year about the assassination of a sitting president (Bush of course) and we are told it promoted "dialog". Alec Baldwin says "let's go stone Henry Hyde and his FAMILY to death" and it is just "humor".

But let a conservative question the patriotism of a man who said on the Senate floor that we had lost a war while our troops are still fighting that war (Harry Reid) and we have liberals in a tizzy.

When it comes to "hate speech" conservatives can't hold a candle to liberals. When it comes to "intolerance" conservatives aren't even in the same ballpark as liberals. In fact the liberals really are what they decry. The liberals are the "intolerant haters" amongst us!!!!

Comparing the US to anybody is a mute point. WE are the only ones ever to drop two bombs on civilian targets and our black ops are the finest the world has ever seen. THERE ARE NO RULES.

I don't really see the comparison. Yes, we did drop 2 bombs on Japan in World War II, but it's not as if Japan had a great human rights record up to that point. The Germans bombed the hell out of England as well-so we just did what would bring a quick end to the war.

Buzzincuzzin perhaps you would have preferred we had INVADED Japan which would have cost roughly 1 million American lives and somewhere in the neighborhood of TEN MILLION Japanese lives INSTEAD of the roughly three hundred thousand we killed with the A-bomb

OR

if loss of civilian lives is the criteria perhaps you should be MADDER about the fact that we FIREBOMBED Tokyo (a city largely made of paper) and killed over a MILLION civilians doing so (again roughly THREE TIMES the deaths caused by the A-bombs).

And I always find interesting the lack of memory displayed by those who somehow think that our dropping the A-bombs PROVED what horrible people we are. They always seem to forget that for about four or five years following the end of the war and before the Rosenbergs sold the atomic bomb to the Soviets WE, the horrible Americans, were the ONLY nation on planet earth that had an A-bomb and yet we USED it ZERO times during that period and did NOT take over the world which we could have easily done. Surely you don't think the Nazis or Imperial Japan would have done the same?????

My political preference was not my point. My point was there are no rules and anybody who thinks legislators are in control of the military/cia underbelly is extremely naive. I developed this opinion from personal relationships and not tv/movies.

Well, I didn't mention ANY political preference but your point about the CIA is taken.

THEY do the dirty work and I'm sure our CIA is as ruthless as the spy agencies for other countries.

However to say that because our CIA pulls dirty tricks we are just as bad as the Imperial Japanese in our treatment of prisoners is to IGNORE history. I'm sure there are cases where we have treated prisoners badly (and maybe even some cases where they didn't deserve it) but OVERALL we treat our prisoners FAR BETTER than Imperial Japan treated their's.

But wait...that would go against everything our history books ever propag... er I mean, "taught" us in school.
