God Marc, I hope that all the outside visitors to this site do not come to the political palace! We can't very well cry foul to stereotypes when we turn a political discussion into rebal flags and KKK. Sheesh!

It may be true, but you cant get away from it.

I participate on another forum that is nationwide, and the people there are always joking with me about having "sheets and hoods" or saying stuff like "Wayne, its saturday night, shouldnt you be at a crossburning ?". Just for being from Alabama.

They think they are being funny. But thats the kind of stereotyping we get for being from "the south".

In fact I make deliberate attempts to stay away from anything remotely redneck just for that reason.

Hey, 19 years in Los Angeles and people were always amazed that I spoke in complete sentences and yet was born in Mississippi. They didn't even realize how patronizing they were for accepting me as a fully evolved human despite my roots!

That's the way it is though, getting upset about it is wasted energy. You just find a stereotype about them that irks them and dig 'em with it from time to time.

I think it has a lot to do with local TV media. Everytime they interview somebody from around here (MS or AL.) they always seem to find the most ignorant sounding shitforbrains from a trailer park that talks like Larry the Cable Guy.

Dude, there are rednecks everywhere. From L.A. to NYC. I was in AZ last month talking to someone from FL and we were talking about the storm and all that and I started to talk about how in MS & AL people were rebuilding quicker than LA and I said, "The cool thing about MS is..." and she didn't let me finish and said "That's the first time I've heard anyone say that!" I'm thinking," you're from FL, there's just as many, if not more, backwards mf'ers there". I've been all over the country...rednecks all over!
