National Taxpayers Union: Only Ron Paul Would Cut Spending

NTU Report: Other Republicans would increase spending by billions

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 30, 2008

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – According to a report released Tuesday by the National Taxpayers Union, Texas Congressman Ron Paul is the only remaining presidential candidate who proposes net spending cuts.

According to the report, Congressman Paul’s proposals would cut government spending by over $150 billion, a conservative estimate of the spending reductions Dr. Paul has proposed. The report concludes that the other remaining Republican candidates, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Mike Huckabee, have proposed spending increases of $19.5 billion, $6.9 billion and $54 billion respectively.

“It should come as no surprise that when you crunch the numbers Ron Paul is the only Republican who would actually shrink the size and cost of the federal government,” said Ron Paul campaign economic advisor Don Luskin. “Romney, McCain and Huckabee don’t hold a candle to Ron Paul – the only true fiscal conservative running for President.”

In ten terms in Congress, Ron Paul has never voted for a tax increase or for an unbalanced budget. The National Taxpayers Union study can be found at www.ntu.org

I'm kind of disappointed that Ron Paul won't consider a third party run.

all he'd do is take votes from the Rep. party,
basically locking it in for the Dems.

Would you rather McCain or a Dem?
some say it doesn't matter.
Savage says it does. I think it does too.

I think it matters in that it would be a lot easier to oppose Hillary than McCain.

It also matters in that it would show the beltway Republicans that they can't just throw up a democrat-lite candidate and expect the conservative base to roll over and vote for them.

And it also matters in that it is a chance for conservatives to do what they say they do and vote based on IDEAS not personality or party. One will almost never find a candidate who they agree with 100% of the time and I, for one, was willing to compromise back in 2000 for Bush. I disagreed with him on some issues and agreed with him on some so despite my disagreement I voted for him. However, when I disagree with a candidate on ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ISSUE I am NOT going to "compromise" just because he calls himself a Republican.

I know a couple people that are supporting McCain simply because he is the front runner, regardless that they disagree with him on the issues. Can't let those dem's win now can we! Myself, I don't vote on party lines. Whomever I agree with most on the issues, and has a history to back that up gets my vote.

Well you know Matchew we conservatives complain bitterly about not getting a conservative candidate and then we vote for whomever the Repubs throw up.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

At this point I'd rather see Hillary in office then to once again send the message to Repubs that I will vote for any liberal just as long as they claim to be republican.

I'm not insane! Can the rest of the conservatives say that????

Do people actually think one person can solve everyones problems? Not gonna happen. They are just human. And we will always be able to find fault in them and not be happy with the way they do things.

Yeah ambergirl I made that point above. You will never find a candidate you agree with 100% (unless you run yourself) so many times reality requires that you compromise.

Like that old guy said in the "Karate Kid", "in everything there is balance".

However when you are voting for a LIBERAL (or someone you almost totally disagree with) simply to "compromise" with your alleged party you are SURRENDERING!!!

Take McCain and the beltway Republicans. If I voted for McCain and then came back on this board and railed against democrats for always looking to party and not ideas I would be a HYPOCRITE. And I will say that about ANYONE who calls themselves a CONSERVATIVE. Our party (allegedly the republicans) has ONCE AGAIN thrown us under the bus. McCain is to conservative as Matthew Lesko is to reasoned debate as OJ Simpson is to innocence..... McCain is NOT a conservative.

I, for one, STATE CONSTANTLY that I am about IDEAS not party. And I for one am actually honest enough to vote that way which means I may not vote in the Presidential race or I may vote for a third party candidate but I WON'T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES vote for McCain.

BTW, extremely important, I WILL vote! There are several congressional races as well as local issues on the ballot and I will vote conservative, as much as possible, on those.

That's how I am...don't say this to a 75 year old Republican though... or you'll get shit about "staying true" and being a "dependable republician"...whaever the fuck that means...lol

EXACTLY! I know I'm going to get shit here...but I argue this point when people say Bush is 100% to blame for where we are today... you think that ONE person fucked up our country... you think this ONE guy from a ranch in Texas did THIS much damage...ok... say it, but you'd be wrong.
