I think it is dispicable. No matter what Bush or others think of the man's religion, the man was a fucking hero and we allegedly have the freedom to practice whatever religion we choose as long as we aren't harming others.

To me that underscores the difference in being "spiritual" or being "religious". Too many rules in religion, and too many ways to be controlled.

To me it underscores the difference between actually following the constitution and paying it lip service.

guitarest thinks they are the cool kid
I personally think no matter the religion if you give your life for this country and wanted dog shit on the grave marker thats your final wish and should be allowed. But the source of the website is in question and I believe there is more to that story than what is published. I am looking at in this way, Bush needs as much support as possible and I really find it hard to believe that this happened. It like the mother of the soldier that died over in Iraq and she kept hounding Bush. She got to meet him many times but still caused more problems, yes it is very sad her child died. But there really is nothing else they can do. Before I get flamed here I support the Military and all those in it. I am Air Force retired, and help all that I can. But realistically there is only so much you can do.

So I believe there is more to that story than what is printed.

well guitarest, being a pagan myself, ive always had a problem with gw. i remember b4 he was appointed the first time, he had made some comment wicca not being a real religion. i actually believe it was a similar situation. some soldiers who were pagan merely wanted to be able to practice their faith together, they were denied this request. they filed a grievance and the military eventually complied. during his campaign, someone asked GW what his thoughts were on this. he replied "well i dont consider that a real religion, so i hope the army does the right thing." u can draw your own conclusion there....but it shows a pattern.

I would also like to add that although there may be more to the story it is not that much of a stretch to conclude that there isn't.

I've known many conservative "Christians" who have argued for years that prayer should be allowed in school and yet would fight to the death to see that "witchcraft" (as they call it) were NOT allowed in school.

That position has always puzzled me as it is blatantly hypocritical, but there you go.
