I guess you have to pay taxes to "give a shit" about those sucking off the system. |

Rep Power: 47 | | | well I have plenty of compassion for the LEGAL IMMIGRANTS and even some for the CRIMINALS i.e. illegals but I say we have to first be concerned about the welfare of our fellow CITIZENS over that of non-citizens. The facts are simple the illegal immigrants are bleeding our health care system dry. They don't have insurance so they overwhelm local ER's and then never pay for their care. Basically the current policy of non-enforcement is destroying our country so something has to change. So we can either topple the corrupt Mexican govt. run by drug lords and secure the southern border of Mexico with the ray guns OR secure the current US southern border either way something has to change to give or the future generations our screwed...

Rep Power: 47 | | | Well if anyone knows about health care issues it's you. However, health care is only a small part of the situation, though I'm sure that goes without saying. Perhaps the only solution really is to take over Mexico after all. But to tell you the truth, I'm one of those people who believes that basic health care should be funded by the government like it is successfully in many other countries.
I was speaking to a friend in Australia a few months ago about health care. When I told him how much my previous doctor visit cost, he nearly fell from his computer chair. He told me that health care in Australia, while not totally free, is extremely affordable. Where I, an uninsured man, might pay around $300 to be hastily examined and dispensed some cold medicine (that I also have to pay for), a similar situation in Australia would after conversion cost about $20 USD. Australia seems to be doing fine. Why can't our healthcare be like that?
And benny boy, I know that you make your living that way so I hereby exclude you from my fantasy of free healthcare. You may continue to levy charges normally, even in the event of a sudden shift in healthcare policies nationwide. I cannot guarantee that your business will thrive, however.

Of course I'm not stupid. I know very well that there would be chaos if we just opened our borders. But I also know the difference between one border control method vs another. I happen to feel a little bit of compassion and responsibility for the less fortunate people of the world. I'm sorry if my ideals put frightening images in your heads about losing those comfortable chairs to swarming mexicans.
And what good is the quality of life if it's only granted to certain members of the human population? And besides. I don't think physical space is really an issue. ESPECIALLY when we're talking about mexican immigrants. These guys come by the dozens in trunks of cars. C'mon! We won't even know they're here, lol!
When I am not playing music or irritating people with nonrealistic goals, I'm working. I do construction work, and therefore I meet a lot of illegal immigrants from mexico.
Sometimes I get the feeling that people like lerxtcat, who talk about comfort and space in relation to human lives, view these mexican people as some sort of cockroaches swarming into your country taking what is yours. But they are not cockroaches. They are your human brothers and sisters. The very idea that their future livelihood is challenged by some because they just don't want them "in your space" is sort of revolting. Well, realize that this is the Earth. It's everyone's space. It was we humans, in our lack of understanding of this fact, that created borders. And it is us, in our lack of compassion and our hatred for others, that place the borders before the well being of our fellow man. | You're very idealistic; I felt that way when I was your aqe too. Then I learned that the world is not Shangri-La. I lived in southern California and I do NOT see Mexicans or anyone else as other than human. I have also seen the good, the bad and the ugly in human behavior from living in the megalopolis.
Maybe you've lived a sheltered life here in South Mississippi, but it's a cold, cruel world out there. America is a bubble and it's protected from that world.
You wouldn't like the reality outside. |

Rep Power: 47 | | | Thanks, Dr. Phil for your lovely advice. But when I am old I still don't think I'll think like that. I have a perfect understanding of what it is like "out there". But that doesn't mean that I wish for it to continue. And it's not like when you set foot outside American soil you're immediately bombarded by foreigners with guns and boot-blades... if you don't drown in the ocean of filth first. America is not the only society of order in the world. There's also Canada.

Rep Power: 26 | | | You have a perfect understanding? Based on what, reading the Internet? Wait until you lose your job because Mexican workers will do it for half the pay - or you have to take that 50% pay cut to be employed.
You have the idealism and the naivete of youth. By the time you're 30 you'll have a better understanding of reality. |

Rep Power: 47 | | | What's your understanding based on?
You sound like you've got some kind of history being canned over some Mexicans or something. Let it go, man.
Don't confuse having a hopeful disposition as naivety. And quit talking about my youth when you don't know anything else about me. Ask anyone who really knows me. I've been all over the place, whether from touring or being in the military. I've been homeless as well as well-off. I've seen both extremes as you have and still I feel alright. Maybe some people are more suited to handle the stresses of life. Don't worry, man. There are support groups for people like you.
