Rep Power: 26 ![]() | Spoken From the Heart I am NOT a political person at all. Most of the time I try to ignore the news, radio and all the other media outlets that bring me depressing news about what's going on in the world. I listen to both sides of every story. But, I've recently been torn about the war in Iraq. It seems that all you ever hear about is the negative and no positive. That we should get out etc, etc, etc..... Then there is the gas and the fact that the two could somehow be related. Once again, don't call that an educated political statement, I just listen to what everyone says and do no research. So, I wanted to know what someone who had been there thought about the whole thing. Someone who had gone, fought and come back to tell his story. I have a very good friend who lives in Indiana. His nickname is Scarecrow because he reminds me of the scarcrow from the Wizard of Oz. He has been there twice and I asked him if he thought it was a good thing or were we just wasting our time and we really should get out. This is what he said to me and I really thought that everyone should hear it because it touched my heart and I hope it touches yours. I know it's a lot to read! Enjoy......... "Well babe, here it is for what it is worth......... I strongly believe that we stopped SOMETHING, we may NEVER no what we stopped, but thank God we will never know. Saddam himself was a weapon of mass destruction. The first resolution back in 91 said that we would stop after he invaded Kuwait if he did a few things. He did not comply with those things. We should have went back way before now. The Iraq’s that stood against him when we came through the first time, Saddam used Chemical Mass Destruction on them killing thousands of his own people. If he had them then, I am sure he still had them now; or could have made them. When we went through Iraq, we found numerous terrorist training camps that he supported. Who knows what we stopped for our children. I had dinner many times with the Iraqi people, they thanked me! The first question I remember being asked is, “Are you staying this time?”, they did not want to be mass killed again by him. Yes there are bad things happening over there, but not because the Iraqi’s are pissed off at us, it is the ones who are scared of Iraq becoming a free democratic country. Insurgents want Iraq to stay in civil unrest. They like being able to blow anything up, steal anything they want, and have the run of the place. If we back out now, we will show the world that if you cause us a little grief, we will fold. As soon as the new ELECTED government of Iraq has a little better control of things, then we will start an exit. But mark my words; we will never completely leave Iraq in our lifetime. We are still in Korea, how long ago was that? We are there now, and doing some good I might add. My unit purchased air conditioners and gave them to schools (and we didn’t have AC). We supported many missions helping the Iraqi people and the children, and there is MUCH, MUCH more going on right now. All I can say is; let us finish the job. I, along with others, I have lost brothers there. They deserve more than, “we lost, come home”. The US Military is the single greatest armed force on the planet… and guess what; it is an ALL VOLUNTEER force. I am sick and tired of government officials trying to speak for me and my brothers in arms, when they never even had the courage to volunteer service to our country in the first place. If we leave now, Iraq will be in worse shape than it was. And as far as the veterans that are complaining about Iraq; NUTS! I could go on, but I think I will stop here. One thing that makes us so sad is the American media. They are so quick to point our fault. Why? My humble opinion, Scarecrow"
