Rep Power: 55 | | | Tips on saving money Times are getting hard for many folks. The rising gas prices have brought the cost of living up on many everyday items. I just can't see how people making minimum wage get by these days.
If you have tips on how you are saving money, post it here and help someone out. |

Rep Power: 55 | | | Another way to save money is to also look for reward type credit cards. I just got a credit card from the pentagon federal credit union that gives a 5% return on all gas purchases. I get 2% back on groceries and 1.25% back on all other purchases. I am a federal employee so it was easy to get. From what I have read, if you are not a federal employee you can still get the card. You have to call to apply instead of online and you pay a one time fee of $50 to become a member of the credit union.
I know other banks and credit unions are starting to offer these kind of rebates. You just have to remember to pay it off each month before you get charged interest. |

Rep Power: 55 | | | Price matching at Wal-Mart
I worked at wal-mart for 3 years before I joined the Air Force. I learned several tips while working there.
If you grocery shop at Wal-Mart like most people, get a newspaper every Wednesday for the grocery ads. Go through the ads of all the grocery stores in your area and make note of what you normally buy that is on sale. I can tell you that every week, someone will have coke or pepsi cases for $2.50 to $3.00 a case on sale. Normal price at wal-mart is close to $4.00.
Grocery shop at Wal-mart and get these sales items. Bring the ad with you, and when the cashier gets to it, point out the ad and they will price match the item for you. It has to be the same item, same size, etc. This can make it like shopping at up to 4 or 5 stores at one store. I did this a few months ago when I was stocking up some items and I saved over $100 this way. It takes a little time but you can save quite a bit if you do. It works on anything in the store. |

Rep Power: 55 | | | Returns on produce at Wal-Mart
They do not advertise this policy but if you purchase some produce at wal-mart and it turns out to be spoiled when you get home, call the customer service desk. Let them know what happened if you can't make it back that day. Take the produce back with the receipt and you get 200% back. I think it works on meat products as well but I can't remember. |

Rep Power: 43 | | | Thanks for the above tips! This is what I've been doing so far.
1. Avoid eating out at restaurants
2. Use a clothes line instead of a dryer
3. Turn off lights and any electrical draws not needed.
4. Cut your cable down to basic
5. Avoid driving above 60 mph, this is the aerodynamic peak for most vehicles. |

Rep Power: 55 | | | Request a reduction in the interest rate on your credit cards.
I called today on my main card and asked for a lower interest rate. They shaved it by 2 points. I never carry a balance but if may help some of you who do. | | |
