Rep Power: 32 ![]() | Bars vs Bands If you are in a band.... don't fucking play for p-nuts. It makes it harder on the rest of us to earn a living when you play for SHIT. If you own a bar.... pay the fucking bands. that is all Last edited by The Good Reverend, MATCHEW; 02-09-2008 at 05:53 PM. |

Seriously some bars that don't have alot of bar flies are dependant on what crowd the band brings with them. If you have a good following, they will ask you back then you can demand more money. Other bars are always packed, and it is customary for me anyway to at least get $100 a man a night. At best $150-200 per man a night. Unless you can pack out a 500+ capacity venue at $5 a person constantly then the price goes up. Mardi Gras, and New years eve should always be high dollar gigs.

Rep Power: 11 ![]() ![]() | True. Its people who play for beer, who make the used car salesmen/bar owners expect to pay everybody the same. Those guys need to be horse whipped.

Rep Power: 32 ![]() | Story Time We played a local bar (not mentioning any names) and when we got outside some older dude said "how much they pay you boys tonight..." i was thinking "fuck you....... nuya" but really, he didn't really want an answer he continued... "whatever it was is wasn't enough. Yall had the place packed all night. When you play for shit...it makes it harder for the rest of us. Remember that." That was some time ago. Anyway, recently a friend of mine told me how a bar MySpaced them about playing. He told me what they offered. It was DICK. My buddy counter offered (a FAIR amount) and the bar sent back it's original offer plus like $10. WHAT DICK HOLES. SO I just thought I'd put out that little "Public service announcment" |

Rep Power: 11 ![]() ![]() | Ahhh ok the root of all evil. Hey David you want to comment about bar owners here. I believe that I have heard you give the best description of what (most) bar owners really are. To me any pay I get isn't enough. Not that I'm greedy. I'm worth way more than they will ever want to pay. I do it cuz its fun. I don't need the money. Money and alcohol makes it all an easier pill to swallow. The place we are playing is packed every night, and I'm thinking damn I used to get 10% in my contract off the top of drink sales. Of course if there wasn't anyone there we got peanuts. About what the average pay is for bands. $300-500 (not much change in the last 20 some odd years) But if the bar sold $20,000 in drinks, the band got 2 grand. Good deal to work out if you have a huge following.

Rep Power: 42 ![]() | That reminds me of the bars in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. Ive played in different cover bands for different pay, at the same bars, and heard different stories from the same bar manager, who didnt' remember I had played in there before with another band. (Funny how ppl dont' remember bass players, Best advice for any musicians - Expect to be fucked over. And have lots of patience when it happens. You will live longer with less stress. Always be professional. |
